What is NibbleReads?
Writing stories with reader influence
My son (Ethan) and I (Rodney) want to be authors.
We understand the chances of us reaching the mythical and wonderful dream of full time income from writing made up stories is slim… but not impossible,
So, we got to work, wrote some novels, marketed them, and promptly decided that we know why the full time income was a tough ask.
Not being ones to give up, we pivoted into a new approach.
Interactive Storytelling
What we came up with is storytelling with an interactive elements where our readers can interact with the story.
The short explanation is we develop a story that should last between ten and twenty chapters of 500 to 1000 words per chapter.
We keep the ending in sight, mostly, we have a basic idea of the world and the characters and throw them into the world in the first chapter.
THEN, at the end of the chapter, we provide three options and open up the commenting for the readers to select which option is best, provide a reason, or, if they are brave, suggest another option.
Whichever option gets the most love is the direction the story follows.
We experimented with this approach in various web novel sites and found it to be a lot of fun to develop, write, and the readers usually bought into the idea a lot. The development of the stories made us loosen up what WE wanted to tell, and when we bought into the approach ourselves, it really made the story glow a lot better than we expected.
So much so, we decided to do this approach full time.
Writing a novel is tough.
Making enough money from them is tougher.
We believe that we can not only write novels, enjoy it more, create an active fan base and make enough money for us both to write full time is far more likely following a storytelling approach we both adore.
Everyone wins.
